Cozinha das Tropas Portuguesas na Grande Guerra

Cozinha das Tropas Portuguesas na Grande Guerra

The photograph is dominated by a kitchen unit on carriage wheels. Although this piece of equipment looks more like an engine it is in fact comprised of different types of ovens, grills and 'bain maries'. The doors and lids are all clearly visible. One of the soldiers is leaning up against the edge of the van while another soldier is leaning across the wheel to peer into one of the pots. Three other soldiers are standing around looking on. The landscape is dusty and sunny with small bushes framing the horizon. This photograph shows that regardless of the nationality of the army, the logistics faced and services required by the soldiers were the same. [Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT. Portuguese cooks.']
